The Altamaran Empire has an alphabet-based writing system,
but the original language Altamarans used was picture-based,
with each symbol representing an action or object, normally surrounded by a circle.

Although this language is long out of use, many of the Empire's seals of office and rank markings are derived from old words that somehow relate to the wearer's position.

These symbols are used for everything from solid gold medallions that only royalty can wear, to stamps used on paperwork, and Altamarans instantly recognize each one.


:: DESCRIPTIONS ::
In order, we have here (beware of effing MASSES of writing):

1. The seal of the prince or princess, child of the current rulers.

2. The seal of the Emperor or Empress, by default, this symbol is also used by their spouse.

3. Symbol meaning 'Altamara'. The picture represents planet Altamara, but this symbol is now also used to describe the Altamaran people, and the Empire in general.

4. Seal of the Economy minister. The one in charge of balancing the Empire's finances. The marks inside the circle are almost identical the the Altamaran number 8, as both come from the image of a pile of coins.

5. Seal of the Education minister. From the image of an abacus, for teaching counting. Altamaran abaci can be exceedingly complex, as they have four arms to operate them.

6. Seal of the Liaisons minister. 'Liaisons' means friendly contact between different groups. This minister deals with interplanetary affairs involving other races.

7. Seal of the Proletariat minister. An intelligent way of saying: "minister who's job revolves around the general public." Keeping up with what your people are saying is important.

8. Seal of the Transport minister... representing land, sea, sky and space. often works alongside the other ministers to aid large-scale operations.

9. Seal of the Agricultural minister, the symbol resembles an ancient farming tool with multipurpose edges. works in close conjunction with the Environment minister.

10.Seal of the Environment minister. The symbol and job are about putting back what you take out of the environment, something Altamarans take VERY seriously.

11. Seal of the War minister. Based off a ceremonial weapon. As a military Empire, this job is possibly the most important bar the Emperor himself, and the war minister is held in high esteem.

12. Seal of the Health minister. Another incredibly important job, this minister gets to dictate the very genetics of the Empire, and is constantly working on new vaccines and cures for illnesses brought back from other planets.

13. Seal of the Research minister. Head of scientific research, be it mechanical weaponry or agricultural botany, this minister manages all of Altamara's frontier research, and works closely with the other ministers, usually the ministers of War and Health.
